On Thursday May 3, Salisbury University and Seagull Century Foundation issued letters of commitment totaling $5,000 for bike lanes is Salisbury. These two important local institutions have sent clear message that they share in our vision of creating a bicycle friendly community
With these commitments in place, along with support from the City of SalIsbury and other sources, Salisbury will be submitting a grant request for $25,000 from Maryland's Department of Transportation (MDOT) tomorrow that will pay for the first 2 miles of bike lanes in Salisbury! This is a milestone event for our town!
By early July, we will be notified by MDOT regarding the grant award. If we get funding, the project is projected to be completed 26 weeks from the date of the award (ie end of 2012).
This fantastic news happened in great part due to the strong support that our community has expressed through petition signatures and volunteering. I want to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. Keep the momentum going!
See you on the road,
Matt
