Our organization, bike-SBY, is actively working to create a high-quality network of bike lanes in the City of Salisbury.  Our project will only be successful if all community members, including the business community, actively support this plan.

Businesses endores bike lanes for Salisbury, MD

As the owner, president and/or CEO of a Salisbury-area business or non-profit organization, I am fully in support of the plan for dedicated on-street bike lanes in Salisbury.  Bike lanes in our City will greatly improve the downtown business climate of our City by increasing customers for businesses, increasing sales tax revenues from new purchases, reducing health care costs and increases in property values.

Many studies have noted that bicycling is an activity that occurs on a “human scale” – that is, at a speed that allows the cyclists to take in their surroundings and interact with their environment. Within an urban area, this means that cyclists will frequently stop to shop, investigate, and/or discover the area that they are in. Inevitably, this leads to more money being spent within a community,

I understand that constructing these dedicated bike lanes may require changes such as narrower travel lanes for vehicles, fewer travel lanes for vehicles, and a reduction or elimination of on-street parking on some streets.  I am willing to support and help provide bike-related facilities in my business such as bike racks, shower and changing facilities for commuter employees, and other improvments to help promote cycling in Salisbury.  These potential solutions are completely acceptable as the merits of bike lanes and increased cycling will provide a greater benefit to Salisbury businesses and the City as a whole.
